Mr. Howard “Gene” Burleson, of Marion, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 with his family by his side. Gene was 69 years old, born on October 12, 1952 in McDowell County to the late Lloyd Burleson and Hazel Wilson Burleson. Gene is preceded in death by a brother, Chris Burleson and sister, Iris Addison. He was a member of Hick’s Chapel Baptist Church for 10 years and served in the United States Army. Gene was the owner of Burleson Well Drilling. He was a collector of all things and enjoyed the art of the deal, always wheeling and dealing. Gene was also a war history buff. His family will remember him for his strong will and charismatic personality. Most of all they are thankful for the way Gene protected, provided, and prepared his family.
Cherishing Gene’s memory are his wife, Sherry Bartlett Burleson; three children, Toby Burleson of Sylva, Crystal Pirkle of Marion, and Ashley Parker of Valdese; Brother, Lindsey Burleson (Kim) of Marion; six grandchildren, Jordan Pirkle, Mandy Pirkle, Gregory Parker, Christian Parker, Noah Parker, and Ryan Parker; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Hick’s Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Laws officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.
