Roger Wilson, of Lester, at the age of 63 passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Mission Hospital – Memorial Campus in Asheville. Roger was a native of Old Fort, born on December 28, 1958 to the late Donald Wilson and Treva McCracken Wilson. He was a member of New Life Community Church in Asheville and volunteered with his church at the Veterans Restoration Quarters. Roger was a self-employed landscaper and enjoyed a good day of hard work. He maintained the grounds of many cemeteries in the Old Fort area. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and traveling. Roger was a selfless and caring person that loved people. A family man who had a big heart and a smile no one could forget. Most of all, Roger’s family will remember how humble he was and the love he had for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He had a passion for telling others of his faith and to inform them of his Lord.
A brother, Roy Wilson precedes Roger in death.
Surviving Roger are his two sisters, Darlene McPeters, of Leicester and Sherry Wilson of Old Fort; brother, Randall Wilson of Old Fort; niece, Gina Groseclose (Rollin) of Leicester; nephews, Jesse Wilson (Candice) and Roy Wilson both of Morganton; and three great nephews, Jacob Groseclose, Raiden Wilson, and Carter Lowder.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Services in Old Fort. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland in Old Fort with Rev. Mark Carlson officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
